Wood
Drive, Detox & Movement
The drive is still there. That is not the problem. The problem is that it has nowhere to go, and it has started turning into tension instead of motion. Old injuries linger well past the point where they should have resolved. Your neck and shoulders hold the whole day. You are more irritable than the circumstances warrant, and you notice it before anyone else does.
Two Maps, One Pattern
In Chinese medicine this is the Wood element, which governs the smooth flow of Qi, the health of the sinews, and the Liverβs work of processing what the body needs to clear. In Western terms the same territory covers connective tissue repair, hepatic detoxification, hormone metabolism, and autonomic flexibility.
Connective tissue is where the two frameworks meet most concretely. Tendons, ligaments, and fascia heal slowly because they are poorly vascularized, and nearly all recovery advice is built around muscle rather than sinew. Wood has governed sinew for two thousand years.
Where to Start
Wood responds to movement, but not to more of the same. The distinction is between loading that stimulates repair and volume that adds to the backlog.
Movement, strength & physical development β
Structured to load tissue rather than accumulate fatigue.
Diagnostics β
Hormonal and detoxification capacity are measurable rather than inferred.
Nutrition & supplementation β
Supporting the clearance pathways that Wood depends on.
Commonly applied too early: more training volume. When drive is blocked rather than absent, adding load usually deepens the block instead of clearing it.
Is this your pattern?
The description above fits a Wood constitution. It may also describe a temporary state, or a secondary pattern sitting underneath a different primary. The Five-Element Self-Assessment reads all five elements plus your yin-yang state and tells you which is actually dominant.
